Over the past 13 weeks, ES2007s has enabled me to acquire several important communication skills that are vital in the working world. In fact, it has aided me in my academic work which also requires email-drafting, project meetings and report writing. It would come to serve a purpose during my internship in May right after the exams as I would have an experience interacting with the real working world.
This course has addressed several agenda that I've had doubts in the past, like resolving conflicts and inter-cultural communications. I have now learnt to appreciate cultures other than my own, and to be more tactful when involved in an conflict situation. The 7C's of writing and communication has also allowed me to gain a greater insight on skills that I thought was 'easy' in the past
I also had the opportunity to conduct presentations in front of the class, and through this avenue, I discovered my flaws and strengths in public speaking, which I would attempt to correct. Had it been in the actual workplace, I would have been deemed as someone who "cannot articulate myself" properly.
With this being my last post, I bid everyone farewell and appreciate the time that you took in reading and giving feedback on my posts. Good luck to your exams and future endeavours!

Hey Adrian,
ReplyDeleteI am glad to have worked with you for the research project and indeed I have learned alot during the process.
It is good to see that this course has clarified some of your concerns regarding communication and interaction with others. Congrats on your internship! It is a good thing that you will be able to apply the newly acquired skills in the workplace so soon while they are still fresh.
Although over the past 13 weeks, I may at times feel that you are quite distant but that feeling is quickly removed when you were working on the project with us-your teammates. It will be good that you pay constant attention to the people around for your future projects, for there may be times they really need your expertise. However, I believed that being the matured person as you are, you are sensitive to the feelings of others. I enjoyed working on the project with you, especially when you see the three girls going around in loops and you just come in to pull us back to earth and to the point :).
Do remember to pay attention to your non-verbal actions during presentation because you tend to shift your feet quite often. Alright then, fellow Engineering student,I wish you all the best for your semester, your upcoming internship and future endeavors!
See you around in school!
Regards,
Shu Yan
Hi Adrian,
ReplyDeleteThanks for being a great blogmate and for sharing sincerely everytime we blog. I am happy for you that you have since improved too through the 13 weeks in terms of your communication skills. I also felt that you had improved in your presentation skills.
I believe the first time we talk was during the mock interview where we were allocated to be in the same team. It was fun working with you. The image of the distant you slowly faded away as we joked and played. I felt that you are really good at expressing your ideas. You are also able to make your audience/listener feel at ease.
Thanks for being a friend. All the best in the upcoming exams as well as what you aim to do. :)
Best Regards
Ying Hui
Dear Adrian,
ReplyDeleteI just want to say thank you for allowing me the opportunity to interact with you, both in the classroom and via this blog. I think that you have made wonderful progress in your efforts to improve your communication skills. As you have mentioned, it is better to make your mistakes here and now in school rather than at the workplace where you will be judged.
I think that your presentation skills have improved greatly since the first presentation during one of the earlier class tutorial sessions. Your blog posts are more intuitive, concise and well-structued.
Best of luck for your internship in May and all that you do. Take care.
With regards,
Jihan Abdat
Hi Adrian
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasant experience in knowing you. As a charismatic person, I am sure that you will do well in the soft skills arena. Your charisma is best illustrated by your reactions during the mock interview. You have also identified your strengths as well as your weaknesses in communicating with others, and I am sure that you will improve on that for your further career.
All the best for your internship,
Christopher
