Blog post 5: Oral Presentation Reflection

I think my group did a pretty god job in preparing for our presentation, and we made a great effort to deliver it smoothly. However there were still some areas could be improved.

For myself, I was still a little nervous, despite the fact that I had rehearse a few times before hand and even on the bus before I reached the classroom! Furthermore, I presented the bulk of the part that I did for the project, and considering the fact that I was the last presenter, I should be more relaxed and confident as the previous 3 speakers had eased the stress for me. I managed to regain my composure after a short while, and delivered the presentation smoothly till the end.

I think one of the factors that contributed to my nervousness was the time. Our group was actually over the time limit, and I was thinking how to re-do my portion so that it would not over-exceed the 20 minutes. Hence part of the flow was interrupted and I appeared to be jittery.

Nonetheless, I felt that I've improved when compared to the previous presentation, and was proud to have done it with my group.

  1. Dear Adrian,

Congratulations on a good presentation! I thought your group members and you did very well indeed. I enjoyed your slides which were very professional looking, and I felt that everyone understood their content very well.

As you have earlier mentioned, you were slightly nervous at the first part, but after awhile you became more comfortable. Everyone has nerves during presentations so it cannot be helped much. I think that you did very well overall. You referred to your group members presentations which allowed for good transitions and connection between the members. I think that your presentation went very well indeed.

    As such, congratulations again.

    With regards,

  2. Dear Adrian,

Heys, you guys did a good job in presenting your ideas across to us. It was thorough and clear.
I agree with Jihan that you became more composed as you progressed in your presentation as you calmed down. The time limit was something which also worried me as I was the last presenter for my group so I too had to moderate the timing if it was over what was allocated. Thus I believe I shared the nerves you had. However, I do not agree that being the last speaker would relieve the stress as one has to try to embed the key points into the audience, what you want them to take away with.
Yet I felt that you did great in coping with the stress and did the presentation well, exuding confidence. You also did a good job in concluding, summarizing the points which you felt were important.

    thanks :)

  3. Hi Adrian,

Your blog post is again direct to the point and very easy to read. However, I think when you said a few areas to improve on, you can try to talk about what you think of the outcome of the presentation, especially the persuasiveness of it.

Also, I find that you have improved tremendously in speaking formally and not pacing around so much as compared to your previous presentation. You also appeared very confident subsequently although you were jittery at the beginning. of course, I understand how you feel because of the time limit as I also felt the same pressure to make my part more concise so as to cut down time too.

In the overview, you have related well to Shilpa's part and you have showed that you have the capability to be the last speaker. You did a wonderful job of summing up.
Well done teammate! Please do continue to improve on your presentation skills, especially the language and "shifting around" the skills will definitely help you in your future career.

    Wish you all the best!

  4. Dear Adrian,

Your presentation was very interactive. I really liked the way you concluded the team's presentation. In particular, you have summarised the main points of the whole group effectively and efficiently without going into the deeper details. Your slides were very straightforward and to the point

Even though you stated that you were very nervous at first, it did not seem to me that you were nervous at all.

As stated by Shu Yan, you did make improvements when compared to your presentation for the peer teaching project

    Best
